Professor Paul Verweij , MD, PhD, is Chairman, Department of Medical Microbiology at Radboud University Nijmegen Medical Center in Nijmegen, The Netherlands. A graduate from the University Hospital Leiden, Professor Verweij received his clinical training in family medicine and hematology in Hilversum and Nijmegen. He also received research training at Victoria University, Manchester, UK, and training in medical microbiology at the University Hospital Nijmegen.

A prolific author and sought-after speaker, Professor Verweij’s interests are in invasive fungal infections in ICU patients and in those receiving treatment for hematological malignancies. He has a particular clinical interest in the management of invasive aspergillosis, especially in relation to optimal use of diagnostic tests and procedures. His research interests focus on diagnosis of invasive aspergillosis, in vitro susceptibility testing of filamentous molds, and clinical studies of new antifungal agents.
